Government-run leisure facilities and beaches across Hong Kong are to close until further notice from Thursday, in light of the city's deteriorating coronavirus situation.

It was only around five weeks ago that beaches reopened after an earlier closure order.

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department said its outdoor recreational facilities including tennis and badminton courts would be closed, as well as indoor sports facilities and stadiums.

Meanwhile, public libraries and museums are to shut again, along with performance venues run by the department.

The announcement came as Hong Kong saw another day with new Covid-19 infections in the triple digits, with an outbreak at a Kwai Chung public housing estate expanding, as well as more patients linked to a cluster involving dance studios.
