Customs officers say they have arrested a 19-year-old man after seizing 150 live turtles that are believed to be an endangered species.

The discovery was made at the Shenzhen Bay Control Point on Tuesday as the man was entering the SAR.

The turtles were estimated to be worth around HK$30,000.

Earlier this month a 27-year-old man was arrested at the border as he was leaving Hong Kong, allegedly with two live turtles in his luggage.

That case was classified as animal cruelty, being as the turtles were wrapped in plastic.
