Around a dozen former mental health patients and their relatives held a demonstration outside the government's headquarters on Monday, calling for the upcoming budget to include more money for mental health support services.
The demonstrators said the government should allocate an extra HK$7 billion for projects to help former patients find jobs, community support services, and medical resources to allow flexible hours at clinics.
The Society for Community Organisation, which led the demonstration, said Hong Kong lags behind other places when it comes to spending on mental health services.
The group said the government must address the difficulties faced by residents with mental illnesses, as well as the burden placed on relatives.
