Legco again witnessed chaotic scenes on Wednesday as lawmakers continued debate on a controversial bill to set up a joint immigration checkpoint at the West Kowloon express rail station
Five pro-democracy lawmakers were virtually carried out of the chamber after wordy duels with Legco president Andrew Leung.
The arguments started when Leung allowed Transport Secretary Frank Chan to carry on with his speech even as some opposition members raised a point of order.
They also questioned Leung over his decision to wrap up the debate on the issue. But the president said he had already explained his decision in writing.
But as the rows and shouting continued, Democratic Party lawmaker Lam Cheuk-ting was ejected from the chamber along with his party colleague Andrew Wan.
As agitated opposition members continued their protests, Roy Kwong was soon ejected as he continued to stand on a desk in protest. Soon after Ted Hui was booted out of the chamber.
As the secretary continued his speech despite the din, Au Nok-hin left his seat and stood behind Frank Chan, holding a protest placard. That prompted Leung to send out Au as well.
The bill, if passed, would allow mainland laws to be enforced at parts of the West Kowloon terminus for the future cross-border high-speed rail line. Opposition lawmakers say this would be in breach of the "One Country, Two Systems" principle.
