Transport services were disrupted by the advent of tropical storm Lionrock after the Observatory issued the number 8 signal on Saturday morning, with ferry services suspended and speed limits cut for major bridges.

The Transport Department urged motorists to drive carefully, pay special attention to traffic and transport arrangements and allow more travelling time.

The MTR Corporation's Tsuen Wan, Kwun Tong and Island lines are operating at five-minute intervals, and the South Island line is operating at six-minute intervals. The Tseung Kwan O line service from Po Lam to North Point is operating at five minute intervals, and 10-minute intervals between Tiu Keng Leng and Lohas Park.

The Tung Chung line is operating at seven-minute intervals and the Disneyland Resort llne at 20-minute intervals. The Airport Express is operating at 30-minute intervals. The MTR says the East Rail line is operating at six-minute intervals between Hung Hom and Sheung Shui, and six to 12 minutes between Hung Hom and Lo Wu.

The Tuen Ma line is operating at six minute intervals and the Light Rail is operating at 15-20 minute intervals.

The MTR's bus service and all major daytime bus services for KMB and LWB are suspended and all ferry services are suspended.

The Transport Department said all lanes of Gillies Avenue South between Wuhu Street and Baker Court were closed to traffic because of a threat posed by an overhanging crane.

It said it had lowered the speed limit on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge to 50 kilometres per hour (kmh), from 100 kmh.

The middle lanes of Stonecutters Bridge are closed and only the fast and slow lanes are in use, but the speed limit is 50 kmh. The speed limit on the Lantau Link has also been reduced to 50 kmh.

The High Speed Rail service between Hong Kong West Kowloon and the mainland is suspended.

The Education Bureau says classes of all day schools are suspended.
