  • Govt again warns of punishment over anthem blunder

Chief Secretary Eric Chan said on Wednesday that punishments will follow if the government finds anybody breached rules over the playing of the national anthem at an ice hockey tournament in Bosnia last month.

The organiser of the competition recently apologised for playing a 2019 protest song for the Hong Kong team after struggling to download a recording of the anthem from the government website it was directed to, which is only in Chinese.

Speaking to reporters after attending a Legco antechamber meeting with lawmakers, Chan said the government has received a report from the Hong Kong Ice Hockey Association regarding the incident, adding that the blunder has upset every single Chinese person.

Chan also complained that Google has still not fixed search results for the national anthem.

"The mistake is still there, and Google is still unwilling to remove the mistake. This is very undesirable because this will give us the impression that... is it Google [that] wants the mistake to continue?"

He said officials will continue to contact the internet company about the issue.
