Sports chief Kevin Yeung has congratulated the Hong Kong team for winning the Ice Hockey Women's World Championship Division III – Group A, in Romania.
In a statement, Yeung praised team SAR for putting on a remarkable performance.
"With its excellent performance, the Hong Kong women's ice hockey team outperformed its best results in the past and reached new heights. We would like to send the team our congratulations,” he said.
The Hong Kong team came in first after winning four of five matches in the six-team lineup.
The team's head, Annie Kwan, thanked the community for their support and said multiple checks were carried out to make sure that the correct national anthem was played at the award ceremony.
"If I didn't check, the organisers would've played the wrong anthem again as the person who received our USB device [containing the right anthem] did not hand it over to the person responsible for playing it," she said.
"The person responsible for playing it once again downloaded the wrong song from the internet."
The Hong Kong Ice Hockey Association has recently been ordered to submit a report detailing plans to improve its governance, after a protest song was played in place of 'March of the Volunteers' at a tournament featuring Hong Kong in Bosnia in February.
The Sports Federation & Olympic Committee has begun suspension proceedings against the association, and the government has indicated that it may reduce its subsidies if the association fails to submit a satisfactory proposal to address its problems.
