  • Health Secretary says VHIS tax break is first step

The Food and Health Secretary Sophia Chan has dismissed criticism that tax breaks for the government's Voluntary Health Insurance Scheme don't provide enough incentive.

"The important thing is that this is an initial step," she said.

Chan also admitted government needed to do more to promote the scheme, which has been a decade in the pipeline.

The scheme provides private medical coverage. Its aim is to alleviate some of the pressure on the public system.
