An unemployed man who admitted to killing a 15 year-old part-time model and sexually violating her body in 2014 has been unanimously convicted of murder by a High Court jury.
Lau Cheung-fai, 37, had offered to plead guilty to manslaughter, but denied the murder charge.
During the trial, he told the court that he was suffering from a mental illness when he killed Kwok Wai-ming after hiring her for a photo shoot at his Mong Kok home in December 2014.
Lau claimed he’d heard voices he believed to be of God and the devil after he struck the victim with a ketchup bottle and strangled her.
Kwok’s body was found half naked in a garbage dump in Mong Kok.
Justice Kevin Zervos described the case as a “horrific murder.” Under Hong Kong law, all adult murderers are sent to prison for life, but Zervos adjourned the formal sentencing until Friday, when he will hand down a detailed judgement.
