Lawmaker Kenneth Leung from The Professionals Guild said on Wednesday that the Legislative Council should resume meetings in September rather than the usual October as there are urgent, beneficial items that need to be discussed.

After protesters broke into and vandalised the Legco building on Monday, the council president called an early start to the summer recess to allow for repairs.

Leung agreed that the building is currently safe for use, saying "The IT system, the security system, all the computer systems are down, and the lifts were heavily damaged."

"Safety is the first priority. But I cannot see any reason why we cannot resume meetings perhaps a bit earlier in September, because I remember last summer I was quite busy having meetings with various government bureaux on other, more urgent bills," he said.

"So I do think it is an option for Legco to commence meetings in September, a few weeks earlier than October."
