  • Liaison office can do any legal trade: Carrie Lam

Chief Executive Carrie Lam said on Tuesday that Beijing's liaison office here can carry out any relevant business it wishes as long as it is legal.

Lam was responding to an RTHK report which confirmed the office has indirect ownership of the local publishing conglomerate, Sino United Publishing Holdings Limited, which runs more than half of the city's bookstores.

When asked whether this arrangement goes against the "One Country, Two Systems principle", Lam said the office could do other work related to its operational objectives, provided it was within the law.

Lam also said one shouldn't interfere with the work of the liaison office.
