  • Liposuction victim's mum hopes for justice at last

The mother of a dance teacher who died after undergoing liposuction in 2014 has talked of her long wait for justice and said she hopes the arrest of a doctor on Tuesday over the death will be a step forward in that direction.

The mother, surnamed Wong, on Wednesday thanked the police for their efforts and said she had been moved on learning that some progress has been made after more than three years of waiting.

"I had waited every day for a couple of years, and finally, there's some progress. I'm really grateful for the police for their effort in investigating the case," she said.

"I cried every time I thought of my daughter. Losing my daughter feels like my heart is being pierced by a knife," Wong said.

"I hope that the criminal proceedings will end as soon as possible," she said. "I really hope that the trial will provide justice to my daughter."

The dance teacher, a mother of a nine-month-old daughter, was 32-years-old when she died in June 2014.

Federation of Trade Unions lawmaker Alice Mak, who has been helping the family follow up on the case, called for more regulation of beauty parlours.
