A 31-year-old man was convicted on Tuesday of murdering his flight attendant ex-girlfriend after he found out she was seeing another man.

By a majority of six-to-one, a jury at the High Court found Oscar Mok guilty of murdering 26-year-old Arbe Chan in December 2013.

Prosecutors had told the court that Mok strangled Chan, who worked for Dragonair, at her home in Tsuen Wan, hiding her body in a wardrobe.

Mok admitted the killing, but claimed it was manslaughter rather than murder because Chan had provoked him, causing him to lose control and kill her.

He fled to the mainland after the murder but was later handed back by mainland authorities.

Mok is expected to be sentenced on Friday.
