An American woman, who's serving a life sentence in jail in Hong Kong for murdering her banker husband 15 years ago, has lost her legal bid aimed at getting a determinate prison term instead of an indefinite one.
Nancy Kissel had sought a judicial review of a decision by an independent board that reviews long prison sentences about her jail term.
She argued that the panel's decision in 2016 not to give her a time when parole would be considered was "inhumane".
Kissel has been in prison for more than a decade for bludgeoning her husband to death after giving him a drug-laced drink. The sensational case was dubbed the "milkshake murder" by international media.
But the Court of First Instance refused to grant leave for the legal challenge.
The court said it would be “inappropriate and impracticable” for the Long-term Prison Sentences Review Board to specify a minimum time Kissel had to serve before considering a potential early release.
