An expert committee said on Friday it found no direct connection between the death of a woman and her getting jabbed against Covid-19.

The Department of Health wrote in a report that the woman, 66, received her first BioNTech jab in July and died of myocarditis 16 days later, with parvovirus – a known cause of the disease – found in her heart tissue.

"There was no conclusive evidence to suggest that the event was caused by the vaccine," the report read.

"The Expert Committee considered that a causal relationship between myocarditis and vaccination could not be definitively established because of the conflicting trends of temporal association of myocarditis with vaccination and detection of viral DNA in the heart tissue."

The department said the case would be referred to the University of Hong Kong for analysis.

It added it received last month 13 reports of suspected myocarditis or pericarditis after getting vaccinated.

"Having reviewed the available clinical data, the Expert Committee considered that five cases were not related to myocarditis or pericarditis and further clinical information would be required for two cases before concluding the assessment," the report read.

"The remaining six cases involved three males and three females aged between 13 and 69; all of them had received Comirnaty vaccine."
