Frankie Yick speaks to RTHK's Damon Pang
Transport sector lawmaker Frankie Yick warned on Monday that the public are not happy with the MTR Corporation's handling of a growing series of safety scares that have hit the under construction Shatin-Central link, saying there is "something not right" about the way the company is keeping people informed.
At the weekend concerns were raised about substandard work carried out at the future Exhibition Centre Station in Wan Chai, several days after shoddy construction was alleged at To Kwa Wan Station and almost three weeks since the alarm was raised regarding the safety of a new platform at Hung Hom.
Rather than MTR bosses, the three cases were revealed by lawmakers or the media.
Yick said he believes the railway operator should be a bit forthcoming with information about such problems.
"I don't know up to what level they should make things public, but if you look at the whole situation right now, I think they do have the responsibility to come out and tell the public earlier what is going on," he told RTHK's Damon Pang.
"Even the board doesn't know about it, or even the CEO doesn't know about it, which is something not right to me. From my point of view, anything which is safety related if I were them, I would definitely report upwards."
