The League of Social Democrats (LSD) has accused the police of working in a careless and perfunctory manner, after the force called its former lawmaker, Leung Kwok-hung, a renovation worker.

The description appeared on a charge sheet in an alleged case of common assault involving Leung. He is accused of hitting a pro-Beijing protester in the Legislative Council demonstration area in April last year.

Leung, commonly known as Longhair, pleaded not guilty to the charge at Eastern Court. He wrote on social media that he had told the police he is a "freelancer", but the officer put down renovation worker instead.

The court adjourned the case for a month for a pre-trial review.
