Social welfare sector lawmaker Shiu Ka-chun said a decision by Baptist University not to extend his teaching contract was politically motivated.
The university said in response that it would not comment on individual cases, citing privacy concerns.
Shiu said he was notified by Baptist University on Monday that his contract won't be renewed after it expires at the end of next month.
He said the school did not give a reason for the decision.
The social work lecturer had served time in jail for inciting others to join the pro-democracy Umbrella Movement in 2014. In January, Baptist University relieved his teaching duties, pending a disciplinary review.
"It's not just a matter for Shiu Ka-chun, it's (also) a matter of universal suffrage," he said.
"I have an excellent record of teaching performance, both from our department head and our students. So, it's totally a matter of political persecution."
Responding to inquiries, Baptist University says it follows established policies and procedures in handling all contractual matters.
