Former legislator Tony Tse has won back Legco seat he lost in the 2016 election, defeating pro-democracy rival Paul Zimmerman to win the vote for the the Architectural, Surveying, Planning and Landscape Functional Constituency.

Tse, who lost two years ago to Edward Yiu, who was subsequently disqualified for failing to take his oath properly, got 2,929 votes, to Zimmerman's 2,345.

Speaking to reporters after his victory, Tse said he will work to win over the support of all the voters in his constituency who didn't vote for him. He says he will also work to unify the sector and hold the government accountable.

Zimmerman said while he was disappointed with the result, the pan-democratic camp actually won a slightly larger share of the vote compared to 2016 – when support was split between two pro-establishment candidates.

“In the 2016, the establishment side had about 3,200 votes and Edward [Yiu] had about 2,400, so in fact, with a slightly lower turnout rate, we have a slightly higher percentage of the vote this time, but we haven’t been able to move the dial significantly, and we really have to rethink of how to do that for the next election.”
