  • Tram driver arrested for allegedly knocking down man

Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Western District in which a 65-year-old man died after being reportedly knocked down by a tram when crossing a road.

The accident happened just before noon on Wednesday at the junction of Des Voeux Road West and Centre Street.

The man sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to Queen Mary Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The 57-year-old tram driver has been arrested for dangerous driving causing death. He was released on bail and is required to report back to the police in late September.
