Two people have died in a fatal car accident in San Po Kong on New Year's Eve, which also left three others injured. One person has been arrested.

A private car is suspected to have lost control and veered onto the pedestrian pavement at around six on Friday evening, ramming into a shop on Tai Yau Street.

Police say one of the deceased is a woman in her twenties, while another man in his sixties also succumbed to his injuries. A man and two women were also hurt.

Police said they had arrested the driver of the vehicle. There were no further details.
