A 6.1-magnitude earthquake hit Shaya County of Aksu Prefecture in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region at 7:49am on Monday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).
The quake was felt around the area, and no casualties or property losses have been reported so far, according to local authorities.
Broadcaster CCTV aired surveillance camera footage showing passengers flocking out of a train station waiting hall.
The railway department deployed personnel to the epicentre region to check the condition of rail tracks, bridges, and tunnels, said CCTV.
The epicentre was monitored at 40.01 degrees north latitude and 82.29 degrees east longitude, with a depth of 50km, the CENC said. (AP)
