The Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong has told foreign countries to respect the rule of law here. It follows criticism of proposed changes to Hong Kong's rendition law.
The changes would make it possible for Hong Kong to send fugitives for trial in jurisdictions where there is currently no extradition agreement, including the mainland.
In a statement, a spokesman said the SAR government's standards are consistent with common practice.
The comments come after US consul-general Kurt Tong raised concerns earlier this month about what he saw as Beijing's interference in Hong Kong.
Beijing said Tong's comments were a distortion of facts.
