The rule-of-law system with Chinese characteristics has made progress, an official said at a 20th party congress press conference on Wednesday.

During the briefing, Yin Bai, deputy secretary-general of the Commission of Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee pointed out that President Xi Jinping’s report at the congress’ opening session on Sunday mentioned the term "rule of law" 23 times, highlighting the importance the Communist Party has attached to justice.

“A well-developed legal system, a rigorous implementation system and strong oversight system is in place.

“We have also improved the intra-party legal system…We have made major progress in reforming the judicial system.”

He added that authorities will in future “derive great energy from Xi Jinping Thought on the rule of law in comprehensively advancing law-based governance”.
