Mainland authorities have detained a member of staff from Bloomberg's news bureau in Beijing on suspicion of endangering national security, the company said on Friday.

The news agency reported that Haze Fan, who is a Chinese citizen, was seen being escorted from her apartment building by security officials on Monday.

“We are very concerned for her, and have been actively speaking to Chinese authorities to better understand the situation," a Bloomberg spokesperson said.

"We are continuing to do everything we can to support her while we seek more information.”

In its report on the arrest, Bloomberg quoted mainland authorities as saying: "Chinese citizen Ms Fan has been detained by the Beijing National Security Bureau according to relevant Chinese law on suspicion of engaging in criminal activities that jeopardise national security. The case is currently under investigation."

Bloomberg said Fan has been working for the company since 2017 and was previously with a number of other media outlets and news agencies including CNBC, CBS and Thomson Reuters.
