China has condemned the opening of a Taiwan office in Lithuania as an "extremely egregious act," saying any move seeking Taiwan independence was doomed to fail.
"There is but one China in the world, Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
"We demand that the Lithuanian side immediately correct its wrong decision."
The Taiwan Affairs Office also weighed in, with spokeswoman Zhu Fenglian voicing opposition to other countries building ties with Taipei.
Taipei announced on Thursday it had formally opened an office in Lithuania. (Additional reporting by AFP)
