The leaders of China and the United States could be holding another round of talks later this month.
US President Joe Biden said he expected to speak with President Xi Jinping sometime in the next 10 days.
If confirmed, that would be their first discussions in four months.
Biden sidestepped a reporter's question about what he might have to say to Xi about tariffs. “I’d tell him to have a good day," Biden responded. The White House is completing a review of the US tariff policy and making recommendations to the president.
The tariffs imposed under former US president Donald Trump applied a 25 percent duty on billions of dollars of Chinese products.
Biden also appeared to cast doubt on a trip reportedly planned by US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan next month. "I think that the military thinks it's not a good idea right now, but I don't know what the status of it is," he said.
Beijing has said any such visit by Pelosi would seriously undermine China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said on Tuesday China is firmly against any official exchange between the United States and Taiwan. (Agencies)
