Covid Cases In Shanghai Drop Further

New Covid infection figures in Shanghai have fallen for the fifth straight day to 10,622 on Thursday.

Of the new local cases, 1,292 were symptomatic and 9,330 were asymptomatic.

But the new infections in the commercial hub still accounted for the bulk of around 11,000 new cases reported nationwide.

47 more Covid patients have died in Shanghai.

Vice Premier Sun Chunlan, who is in the financial hub, said the city’s virus situation is gradually improving, with more districts achieving community zero infections.

She said the city should continue to step up infection control efforts in old districts and suburban villages by targeting elderly homes, businesses and construction sites.

She added that more should be done to boost the supply of isolation facilities in the city.

In Beijing, 50 new local infections – most of them symptomatic – were logged, as the capital continues to undergo mass testing.
