Flights from Hong Kong to cities on the mainland's coast have been cancelled on Saturday morning as super typhoon Lekima makes landfall.
The China Meteorological Administration had issued its highest level of warning on Friday as the storm, which has already claimed at least one life in Taiwan, rolled towards the mainland.
The red alert focused on Shanghai and Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangsu and Shandong provinces.
Travellers are being advised to check with their airlines before beginning their journeys. Flights to Shanghai, Hangzhou, Wenzhou and Qingdao are among those affected.
