Gui Minhai, the Causeway Bay bookseller detained on the mainland, has criticised Sweden for treating him like a chess piece in order to cause trouble for Beijing.
Last month mainland security personnel reportedly detained Gui as he was on his way to Beijing from Shanghai in the company of two Swedish diplomats.
The 53-year-old, who was born on the mainland but also holds Swedish citizenship, was speaking in an interview at a detention facility in Ningbo organised by the Ministry of Public Security.
Gui, was initially taken to the mainland from Thailand in late 2015 by mainland agents, apparently in connection with a drink-driving offence. But his bookstore, the Mighty Current, had been selling titles about the private lives of senior mainland officials.
Beijing says Gui, who is now understood to be suffering from a degenerative disease of the muscles, has been detained for leaking state secrets abroad.
The Swedish government says it had been providing consular assistance to Gui as he needed medical help.
