The National Health Commission reported 71 new locally-transmitted Covid-19 cases on Monday, down from just over 100 the day before.
Inner Mongolia accounted for the lion's share of the newly confirmed local cases. There were 32 in the autonomous region, where the city of Hohot is at the centre of a rapidly spreading outbreak, which officials say was triggered by imported cases of the virus.
The city of Suzhou has been battling an outbreak since last week, and eleven new infections were confirmed there or in surrounding Jiangsu Province. Seven cases were confirmed in Liaoning, six in Guangdong, five in Shanxi, four each in Sichuan and Yunnan, and two in Heilongjiang.
The National Health Commission also confirmed 73 imported cases on Monday, 27 of them in Shanghai and nine in Beijing. There were also 20 imported infections in Guangdong, five each in Guangxi and Sichuan, and three in Fujian. (AP)
