  • Jilin hardest hit as mainland adds 1,860 infections

The mainland reported 1,860 locally transmitted Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, down from 3,507 the day before.

Jilin province remains the hardest-hit in the mainland's biggest outbreak since the pandemic began, with nearly 80 percent of the new infections.

The National Health Commission (NHC) said Jilin, which is under lockdown, has seen another 1,456 cases, the vast majority of them in the city of Changchun.

Elsewhere, Guangdong province logged 59 new locally spread Covid cases, 55 of them in Shenzhen.

Provincial health authorities also confirmed 19 imported infections from Hong Kong.

The number of new asymptomatic cases, which the NHC does not classify as confirmed infections, stood at 1,338 compared with 1,768 a day earlier.
