The Macau government said on Wednesday that it did not record any new Covid-19 cases – the first time since its Omicron outbreak started more than a month ago.
There have been a total of 1,816 coronavirus infections in the gambling hub since June 18.
Macau's casinos and other non-essential businesses reopened on a limited scale last Saturday as the SAR's epidemic situation eased following a 12-day shutdown.
However, health officials there said they are still unsure if the city has completely eliminated the virus, and that they will have a better assessment of the situation after another round of mass testing this weekend.
Authorities said even if they find no new infections, the remaining Covid restrictions will only be relaxed gradually and PCR tests will continue to be conducted to prevent a rebound in cases.
The Macau government added that it will announce updates on the infection control plan later this week, and appealed to residents to comply with anti-epidemic measures.
