The Macau government has tightened the entry requirement for travellers from Hong Kong in light of what it calls "changes in the territory's epidemic situation".

Starting from 6am on Thursday, people heading to the gaming hub via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge have to wait at the port until they receive their Covid PCR test results.

"It will take around six hours for the result to come back," the Macau government said in a statement issued just after midnight. "The relevant people should make the corresponding preparations."

Those who test negative will be sent to a hotel for 14 days of medical surveillance, while those who test positive will be isolated.

Macau health authorities also said a Hong Kong woman, 41, had tested "weak positive" for the virus on Wednesday, three days after her arrival.

She's since been classified as an "imported asymptomatic patient," and is currently being isolated for treatment.
