The government in Macau on Thursday announced that from March 28, the quarantine period for inbound travellers from overseas will be shortened from 21 days to 14, bringing the rule in line with that for people arriving from Hong Kong.
Health officials said that after 14 days of quarantine in a hotel, arrivals will have to take four PCR tests for Covid over the following seven days.
During this week-long period, they will not be allowed to enter the mainland.
Failure to undergo testing will lead to people's "health code" turning red, meaning they will be denied access to any premises and public transport, officials warned.
The shortened quarantine will also apply to people who entered the SAR before March 28.
There are currently around 700 people under quarantine in Macau, officials said.
