  • Macau to further lift Covid curbs from August 2

Macau officials say coronavirus restrictions will be eased further on August 2 after the city reported no new community infections for nine consecutive days.

Restaurants will be able to resume dine-in services and other businesses, including cinemas, beauty parlours, gyms and bars can reopen.

However, customers must present a negative PCR test result obtained in the previous three days before they can eat at a restaurant.

All government departments will resume normal operations.

There have been 1,821 infections in the gambling hub since an Omicron outbreak started in June, prompting multiple rounds of citywide testing.

Health authorities said in a statement on Monday that the risk of virus transmission in the SAR has significantly decreased.

"The SAR government thanks the public for their understanding, support and cooperation since the outbreak started on June 18. We hope everyone will continue to uphold the dynamic zero situation," the statement said.

It noted that people who didn't get tested in the latest round of mass testing would see the colour of their health code changed to yellow, meaning they might be banned from taking public transport, entering certain venues or leaving Macau.

The statement added that police might take such people to designated locations for testing and they would not be allowed to leave until found to be negative.
