Mainland health officials on Thursday logged a total of 1,852 new Covid cases across the country.
1,449 of the new patients were in Shanghai.
144 were symptomatic cases while the rest were asymptomatic infections.
"The number of newly infected patients is on a downward trend, and the number of new positive cases found in non-quarantine areas is decreasing," said Zhao Dandan from Shanghai's health commission.
The risk in the community has come under effective control, he added.
Shanghai authorities also reported the deaths of five more Covid patients.
Meanwhile, Beijing saw 35 new symptomatic and 11 asymptotic cases.
Infections were also reported from Henan and Liaoning provinces.
