A mainland human rights lawyer, who was jailed for subversion, says Hong Kong's new security law is "scary" and brings with it “unspeakable worries" because the authorities are free to define for themselves what constitutes a threat to the nation.
Wang Quanzhang was one of the lawyers and activists who were rounded up five years ago in the so-called 709 crackdown, which began on July 9, 2015.
He told RTHK that since his release in April, he still gets warnings from the authorities against speaking to the media but that he finds their attempts to silence him ridiculous.
He also thanked people here in Hong Kong for following his plight over the years.
And despite his release, Wang said he's unhappy with the verdict that sent to jail. He's appealed against the court decision.
