Mainland Sees 1,294 New Covid Infections

The mainland on Sunday reported 1,294 new Covid infections locally, as city-wide testing begins in Tianjin.

Among the latest infections, 259 are symptomatic and the rest did not show any symptoms.

Hainan and Sichuan provinces saw the highest tally of symptomatic cases with 70 and 69 cases. Tibet had 51 infections and Guangdong had 13.

Over 450 asymptomatic cases were from Tibet, 125 were from Hainan and 78 from Sichuan.

Meanwhile, health authorities in Tianjin are conducting PCR tests for all residents from Sunday morning, in light of “abnormalities” found among numerous samples taken from the community.

Officials said the measure is in line with the country’s dynamic clearance strategy to stop imported cases and prevent resurgence of local infections.

Health authorities reported seven cases from Tianjin for the day, five of whom were asymptomatic.

Officials said people have to stay home before they are tested, and can go out for necessities after having samples taken.
