  • Special feature: Sichuan, 10 years after the quake

Ten years ago today, a magnitude-8.0 earthquake struck Sichuan, toppling buildings and triggering devastating landslides. The quake - one of the worst natural disasters to ever hit China - claimed an estimated 87,000 lives and rendered millions homeless.

Thousands of children died in the tragedy. Many were killed as they attended class in schools that turned out to be made of substandard materials.

They were dubbed as "tofu" constructions, and many grieving parents are adamant that their children may have survived if the buildings didn't crumble so easily.

Dujiangyan city was among the hardest hit. At the Juyuan High school alone, 278 students perished. For ten long years, a group of parents from the quake-ravaged city have been fighting on behalf of their deceased children, saying they'll never stop trying to bring those responsible for the 'tofu' schools to justice.

RTHK's Mantai Chow went to Sichuan to speak with some of them.
