Taiwanese tanks and soldiers fired at simulated People's Liberation Army forces in an anti-invasion drill on the island's coast on Thursday.
The live-fire drill at a beach in southern Taiwan was part of an ongoing annual exercise designed to showcase the military's capabilities and resolve to repel an attack from across the Taiwan Strait.
The simulated response to a landing included assault helicopters, fighter jets and missiles launched at targets in the sea.
The island's Defence Ministry said the joint army-navy-air force operation tested Taiwan's combat readiness in the face of a PLA military threat.
On Tuesday, President Tsai Ing-wen said Beijing's own training exercises, including sending fighter jets to circle Taiwan, were threatening regional peace and stability. (AP)
