Tiananmen Families Visit Protesters' Graves

More than a dozen relatives of a small number of those slain in the June 4 Tiananmen massacre were escorted by the authorities to visit the graves of their loved ones on Tuesday.

Eight of the hundreds – or thousands – of protesters killed are buried at Beijing’s Wan’an Cemetery and their families were taken to the site by officials.

In a memorial speech, the victims' families said the Chinese Communist Party cannot claim that there is rule of law on the mainland if it isn't even willing to acknowledge and apologise for what it did 30 years ago, or to promise to prevent a repeat of the tragedy.

Meanwhile, the Tiananmen Mothers group called on foreign governments and all those who support justice to demand that Beijing address the matter in a fair and open manner.

The group said they will never forget how the authorities brutally murdered their children who were simply campaigning for a better country.

The women said the central government must stop trying to whitewash China's history.
