The Foreign Ministry has on Sunday released a report on the "State of Democracy in the United States", saying it "exposed the deficiencies" of American-style democracy while accusing Washington of exporting such democracy to other parts of the world.

The report, published on the ministry’s website, said democracy is a common value shared by all humanity, and it takes different forms in different countries, without a one-size-fits-all model.

It stressed it's "totally undemocratic" to measure the different political systems in the world with a single yardstick.

The political system of a country should be independently decided by its own people, the report said.

It added that over the years, democracy in the United States has become "alienated and degenerated", and it has "increasingly deviated from the essence of democracy and its original design".

It pointed out that the system in the US is messy and chaotic and "fraught with deep-seated problems".

It accused Washington of "using its own values as a means to divide the world into different camps, or carry out intervention, subversion and invasion of other countries under the pretext of promoting democracy".

The report said the US should focus on addressing its own deficiencies - rather than "imposing its own brand of democracy on others".
