A mainland activist who was marching from Beijing to Tianjin to find her lawyer husband arrested almost three years ago has been taken away by police herself.
A Beijing activist, Ye Jinghuan, posted on twitter that Li Wenzu was taken to a police station in Tianjin on Monday morning.
Ye said she was on the phone with Li's friend, Wang Qiaoling, when men who appeared to be police arrived to take them away. Wang shouted "don't drag me" and "I can take my own bag" before the phone was cut off.
In another tweet, Ye wrote that Wang was later released. They were unable to reach Li by phone.
Li's husband Wang Quanzhang was among lawyers and activists taken away in a nationwide operation known as the "709 crackdown".
Wang Qiaoling's activist husband was also arrested during the sweep before being released.
Wang Quanzhang is the only one still unaccounted for since his arrest in July 2015. More than a hundred mainland human rights lawyers were targeted in the crackdown, some were accused of subversion.
