Authorities in Shanghai on Friday reported three new Covid-19 cases outside the city's quarantine areas, the first community infections identified after five days of no infections.
The three cases, from the same family, were found in Qingpu district.
They came days after officials declared the financial hub had achieved the central government's Covid-zero goal and began allowing some shops to reopen.
The Qingpu patients were among 770 new local asymptomatic infections recorded in Shanghai. The city also reported 88 new local symptomatic cases.
The city of Beijing, meanwhile, added 50 local symptomatic and 12 asymptomatic cases, while Sichuan province logged 20 new and just over 100 asymptomatic infections.
In all, mainland authorities reported 176 new locally-transmitted symptomatic cases and more than 900 asymptomatic infections.
