Chief Executive Carrie Lam said on Monday that Hong Kong's solid foundations and proactive policies should be able to help it deal with global economic challenges that lie ahead.
Speaking at the Asian Financial Forum at the Wan Chai convention centre, Lam said the world economy has already been affected by US-China trade tensions in recent months, while investors are also concerned about the pace of monetary normalisation in major economies and the progress of Brexit.
Lam said her government has given priority to ensuring financial stability and the integrity of financial systems and markets, and Hong Kong is prepared for shifting economic and political ties.
She also said Hong Kong remains one of the most open economies and the city has taken steps to upgrade itself through financial technology and a faster payment system.
