Lee Quane talks to RTHK's Candice Wong

Hong Kong has become the the most expensive Asian destination for business travellers, according to an annual survey .

The human resources consultancy ECA International said the SAR has again risen to the top after ceding the position to Tokyo in 2016. The survey compares the daily costs for business visits in dozens of cities in Asia.

Lee Quane, the firm’s regional director for Asia, said overall costs for a business trip here have risen by 13 percent when compared to the year before – mainly driven by money spent on meals and drinks.

"The average cost of a business trip to Hong Kong, excluding the cost of travelling, is now approximately US$508 a day. That includes the costs associated with hotel accommodation as well as a person's day to day expenses," he said.

But Quane told RTHK's Candice Wong that despite the rising costs, companies will keep sending their staff to Hong Kong as the SAR is still a thriving hub for businesses and conferences.
