Hong Kong Airlines says it is cutting the scale of its operations by six percent and will further adjust frequencies to some destinations amid what it called a challenging business environment.

The airline, owned by the heavily indebted mainland conglomerate HNA, will also scrap its route to Los Angeles in February next year, leaving Vancouver as its only destination in North America.

The troubled airline has already cut a number of flights and introduced a series of cost-cutting measures.

In a statement, the Transport Bureau says the airline's financial situation has still not improved, and the situation is a matter of concern. it urged the company to take action to improve the situation.
