Hong Kong shares posted healthy gains by the close of morning trade Wednesday as investors were cheered by good news on the development of coronavirus vaccines.

The Hang Seng Index rose 0.6 percent, or 157 points, to 26,572.

Mainland stocks also edged up, as investors welcomed the central government's pledge to implement additional policy measures to prop up the coronavirus-ravaged broad economy.

At the midday break, the Shanghai Composite index was up 0.5 percent, while the blue-chip CSI300 index climbed 0.2 percent. (AFP/Reuters)
