Hong Kong stocks went into the break slightly lower on Tuesday following big losses on Wall Street and in Europe as governments reimpose fresh virus containment measures.
The Hang Seng Index eased 0.3 percent, or 63 points, to 23,887.
Shares of HSBC fell more than 2.5 percent, falling to HK$28.55 per share, as global banking stocks remained under intense pressure on reports about financial institutions allegedly moving illicit funds.
Across the border, the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index edged down 0.1 percent to 3,312. The Shenzhen Component Index gained 0.3 percent during the morning session to 13,184.
Elsewhere in the region, Sydney dropped 0.9 percent. Seoul, Manila and Jakarta all fell more than one percent. Taipei and Singapore were also down.
